Transitional Kitchen
Design in Media, PA

Cabinet Design

This kitchen design in Media, PA, was created for my clients who wanted a brighter, more functional space with better storage, more usable countertop area, and a cleaner overall look. The original kitchen felt outdated and disconnected from the way they live, so the design direction centered on simplicity, improved flow, and a timeless transitional kitchen design style.

A standout feature in this kitchen remodel project is the cabinetry plan. We replaced the small pantry closet previously located in the mudroom with a much larger pantry hidden directly within the kitchen. Designed to look like just another tall cabinet door beside the refrigerator, this seamless storage solution blends beautifully into the wall of semi-custom kitchen cabinetry while making everyday kitchen essentials far more accessible.

Countertops and Finishes

The finishes selected for this kitchen remodel in Media, PA, were chosen to support a fresh, cohesive look with just the right amount of warmth and contrast. Because the clients wanted the space to feel clean and simple, we used a refined material palette that feels classic rather than overly ornate.

To unify the first floor, we upgraded the flooring throughout the main level with engineered hardwood. We then repeated the darker tones found in the wood grain by using a deeper finish on the island and dry bar area. That contrast gives this transitional kitchen design more dimension while still maintaining the calm, tailored feel the homeowners wanted.

Layout Improvements

A major transformation in this kitchen came from reworking the layout to create a larger and more connected living space. We removed the wall between the former dining room and kitchen, opening up the footprint and dramatically improving how the space functions day to day. This change helped turn the room into an open concept kitchen remodel that feels more spacious, welcoming, and practical for both family life and entertaining.

We also added a pocket door between the kitchen and the front room to give the homeowners more flexibility. When left open, the door disappears completely out of sight. When closed, it allows the front room to feel more separate and private without disrupting the overall flow of the home.

Lighting Choices

Light was another important part of this kitchen. In the area that had previously been used as the dining room, we closed up some windows and created one new larger window above the sink to bring in beautiful natural light exactly where it would have the most impact. This helped brighten the entire kitchen and support the fresh, open feel that defines the finished design.

With the improved layout, hidden pantry, cohesive flooring, and tailored cabinetry, this kitchen project reflects how thoughtful planning can completely transform an outdated room. The result is a functional and inviting kitchen with the balance, storage, and everyday ease the clients were looking for.
