Rustic Industrial Kitchen Remodel in Kennett Square, PA

Design Vision for This Kitchen

This kitchen design project in Kennett Square, PA, was created for my clients who wanted a space that felt more open, more connected, and better suited to everyday family life. The vision was to transform a closed-off kitchen into a warm, inviting gathering place with strong architectural character and a refined rustic industrial kitchen design aesthetic. Every design decision was made to balance function, texture, and timeless appeal while giving the home a more cohesive flow.

Removing Walls to Create an Open Layout

A key part of this kitchen remodel in Kennett Square, PA, involved removing the wall between the existing kitchen and dining room. Because that wall was load-bearing, a structural beam was required to support the opening. Instead of minimizing it, we chose to make it a defining feature of the design by wrapping it in thin-brick veneer. We also opened the wall between the kitchen and family room, creating a brighter, more spacious feel and supporting the goals of an open concept kitchen remodel that feels both practical and welcoming.

Rustic Industrial Design Elements

The overall design blends rustic warmth with clean, tailored finishes for a kitchen that feels grounded and elevated at the same time. This modern rustic kitchen combines natural texture, darker wood tones, and mixed metals to create a space that feels collected and intentional. The exposed structural feature also plays an important role in the overall exposed beam kitchen design, adding character and visual depth to the room.

Materials and Finishes

Material selection was central to shaping the look and feel of this kitchen. The brick-wrapped beam brings texture and architectural interest, while the dark wood cooktop hood and matching island add warmth and contrast. A matte travertine-look backsplash laid in a herringbone pattern introduces subtle movement and a more custom feel. Together, these finishes support the layered look of a thoughtfully designed rustic industrial kitchen.

Lighting and Hardware

The finishing details were chosen to reinforce the kitchen’s rustic-industrial style without overwhelming the space. Antique brass and matte black plumbing and hardware fixtures create a balanced contrast, adding depth and a polished edge. These mixed finishes help the kitchen feel warm, tailored, and visually connected to the overall design vision.

Cabinetry Style

The cabinetry direction for this kitchen supports the overall goal of creating a space that feels timeless, functional, and visually grounded. Paired with the darker wood elements and farmhouse sink, the cabinetry style helps anchor the room while allowing the architectural features and layered finishes to stand out.

As a Chester County PA interior designer, Love Your Home Interiors approaches each kitchen project with a focus on how the space will look, feel, and function for the people living in it.
